Current Cannabis Laws

The Bahamas is in the middle of significant cannabis reform. The government introduced the Cannabis Bill 2024, which would legalize cannabis for medical, religious, and scientific purposes, decriminalize possession of up to 30 grams ($250 fine instead of criminal charges), and establish a Bahamas Cannabis Authority to regulate the industry.

Until the bill is enacted, cannabis remains illegal under the Dangerous Drugs Act. The proposed framework would require 100% Bahamian ownership for cannabis licenses.

For Tourists

As of now, there is no legal cannabis access in the Bahamas. The Cannabis Bill 2024 is promising, but until it passes and is implemented, the old law applies. Nassau and the cruise ports see active enforcement.

Watch this space — the Bahamas could become one of the Caribbean’s most accessible cannabis destinations if the reform package goes through.
