San Juan is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Caribbean, and with 79 dispensaries in the metro area, medical cannabis access is excellent — if you have a qualifying medical card.
How to access
- Bring your valid US medical cannabis card — Puerto Rico recognizes out-of-state cards
- Visit a dispensary — several are within walking distance or a short taxi from the cruise terminal in Old San Juan
- Get a 30-day temporary tourist card — the dispensary handles the paperwork, costs ~$20-50
- Purchase medical cannabis products — flower (for vaporization), edibles, tinctures, topicals
Dispensaries near the cruise port
The cruise terminal in Old San Juan is close to the Condado and Santurce neighborhoods, which have the highest density of dispensaries. Green Spirit Rx in Condado is particularly convenient for cruise passengers.
The catch
You must have a valid medical cannabis card from your home US state. Without one, you’ll need a doctor’s recommendation — some dispensaries can connect you with a local physician, but this takes more time than most cruise port days allow.
